District Screenings & Assessments

The Kansas Multi-Tier System of Supports Integrated Framework (MTSS) is a set of evidence-based practices implemented to meet the needs of all learners. MTSS builds a system of prevention, early intervention, and support to ensure that all students are learning from the instruction.
-
The goal of MTSS in USD 383 is to provide an integrated systemic approach to meeting the needs of each and every student and for schools to use their resources in ways that enable every child to be successful. This is accomplished by:
● Evaluating current practices to identify those that yield evidence of effectiveness; addressing areas that are missing; and replacing approaches with those that are supported by research.
● Being prevention oriented: knowing who needs support as early as possible and putting necessary and appropriate supports in place

FastBridge Screening Test (6-10)
All students, grades 6-10, are required to take the FastBridge Screening Test as part of MVA’s Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model. Teachers administer these assessments to individual students in a vClass with each student using a webcam and microphone.
FastBridge Screening is an assessment used to help teachers identify students who may need additional instruction and intervention to meet his or her individual learning goals.
All 6 – 10th grade students will complete screening tests in reading, math, three times throughout the school year (Fall, Winter, and Spring). The purpose of these tests is to see if there are any missing gaps in proficiency skills. We will be using the following FastBridge Learning assessments to evaluate students:
1. aReading – Reading Screener
2. aMath – Math Screener
Based on the results of their assessment, students may have the level/intensity of instruction they are receiving adjusted. Instruction within each tier is based on assessment data and what is proven to be most effective and varies by student’s learning levels.

Yes, the State of Kansas requires testing of all students in public schools. The Kansas Assessment Program (KAP), a program of the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE), fulfills a mandate from the Kansas Legislature. Each year, students in grades 3-8 and grade 10 are assessed in English language arts and Mathematics. A science assessment is provided in grades 5, 8, and 11; and a social studies state assessment is embedded within the course instruction for grades 7 and 11.
These tests take place during a specific time frame designated by the Kansas State Dept. of Education. All students must be available to meet at a regional location in Kansas, or online during the spring testing window.
-
It is mandatory for MVA students to participate in the State of Kansas Assessment appropriate to the courses of their enrollment.
-
Travel to the regional location for state testing is the responsibility of the family. The family will be notified of the dates and time requirement as soon as possible.
-
Online state assessments have additional technology requirements and logistics. We strongly encourage students to attend a test site...plus we love to see our students in person!
